IAN SANDEFER

Trusted Co-Counsel and Tenacious Trial Lawyer

In my years of practicing law, you come across a few attorneys who not only know the law but live it in the trenches day in and day out. Ian Sandefer is one of those few. Based out of Casper, Wyoming, Ian has served as my co-counsel in over 25 cases across Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana, and South Dakota. Every time I’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with him in a courtroom, I’ve known our clients were in capable hands.

Ian is a partner at Sandefer & Woolsey, focusing his practice on plaintiffs’ personal injury and criminal defense work. He’s licensed to practice in all Wyoming state courts, the Federal District Court of Wyoming, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the State of California. His courtroom presence is grounded, persuasive, and built on deep preparation.

A Wyoming native, Ian’s roots run deep in Casper. He began his academic journey at Casper College, graduating cum laude before continuing to the University of Wyoming, where he earned the prestigious President’s Honor Scholarship and maintained a perfect GPA. From there, Ian finished his undergraduate work at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he was honored with multiple awards for academic excellence, including the Harold W. Carey Prize for the highest GPA among graduating history majors.

But Ian’s character isn’t just found in his academic resume; it’s shown in how he gives back. After graduating, he returned to Wyoming and volunteered full-time as an AmeriCorps VISTA with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming. That same commitment to community still defines him today.

Ian earned his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley—one of the top law schools in the nation. At Berkeley, he externed for Chief Judge Vaughn R. Walker, taught incarcerated youth, and advocated for underserved families through legal clinics and clerkships. His early career already showed the grit and compassion that make him such a valued ally in our practice.

In 2012, Ian was named one of Wyoming’s Top 40 Trial Lawyers Under 40 by the National Trial Lawyers. Today, he continues his work not only in courtrooms across the region but also in his community, serving on the boards of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming and the Renewed Hope Foundation, all while raising three children in Casper.

There are lawyers you respect from a distance, and then there are the ones you trust with your cases, your clients, and your word. Ian Sandefer is the latter. I’m proud to work alongside him.
